New Engine Mounts and All Is Right In the World!
Wow! It took some doing, but my father-in-law and I got the new engine mounts in the wagon today. Just like I read in all the related threads, the driver's side mount was the worse of the two. I went ahead and replaced the engine shocks while we were in there. I was quite suprised that the old engine mounts didn't look to bad, or worn, but somewhere between the new shocks and mounts, it made an unreal difference. When I was all done, I just sat in my car for about 5 minutes and soaked up the feeling of no vibration. Was it a pain in the rear? Yeah, you know it was. Was it all worth it?

I've been wondering myself about changing the motor mounts on my 300D. I drove my 300 last night after not driving it for over 2 weeks and I was feeling like it was going to rattle the fillings out of my teeth. Maybe I got used to driving a gasser a bit too much lately.

Did your old engine mounts look bad? Flat and coming apart?

I haven't looked at the mounts that closely lately but if they're like any of the other rubber in the car I'd imagine they're probably toast.

No. My old engine mounts were not flat or seperating. In fact, they looked pretty good. Just a few small cracks here and there. I can't imagine just the new engine shocks made all the difference, though. I think perhaps the old engine mounts had just lost there vibration absorbing properties. Of course, that's just a theory, and I generally have no idea what I'm talking about.
