1985 300D, I drove up north and back at 70 to 80 mph and got 22.3 mpg on flying J diesel. (Wisconsin winter blend) The best I ever got was 25 mixed driving.

Still at 25-26, looking at my fuel records from the last 40 thousand miles, it's not changed much. Ocasional 30, ocasional 22. Found diesel cheaper this week, don't think it's as good as my usual though.

Interisting note, I've got an injector nailing a bit now and again, and a slight bit more smoke(winter fuel?), but MPG is the same. Gotta love a diesel..

Jetta averaged 47 mpg with cc set on 78 mph for most of my trip to Southern Mississippi running 49 cetane B2 fuel. However coming back with 40 cetane crap in tank and running 90+ mph (with one 2 mile 110 run making a Toyota Camry fall back) from Jackson MS to Memphis TN following a Porsche and I averaged 34 mpg back to MO. 490 miles in 6hrs & 20 minutes and Memphis to home was never above 78 mph .

Wonder what MPG the Porsche was getting for the trip??? I bet he didn't give a rip. I did notice his plate had a star with BOP initals.

Somehow I managed to get 51.5 mpg from the Sonoma (remember, that's with UK gallons, not the smaller US gallon). Mostly highway miles, little town driving. I keep the speed down to around 55mph. Best by far I have ever gotten. Usually around 40mpg. Still, not bad for a small truck.

I adjusted the pump some a couple of weeks ago and it's been better on fuel ever since.
