1982 W123 climate control

Ok, I'm having trouble determining whether this is a monovalve problem or not. It was 37F this morning, and I needed heat. I turned the temp wheel to MAX, and hit the middle button on the CC switch. Nothing but cold air came out. I thought if I drove around a little bit, it would eventually warm up. It did not warm up. So, I'm thinking this is a monovalve problem. But, last week, it was close to 80F outside, and the only way I could get cool air in the car was to set the temp to MIN, anything other than MIN would get me HOT air. So, what's the deal here, do I have a broken sensor, or monovalve or what?

try cleaning the contacts for the wire connection at the monovalve also inside the plug itself. that might cure it like it did mine.
could be the in dash temp sensor as well that is shot

The monovalve opens if it does not receive power. A bad connection will result in maximum heat all the time. Try disconnecting the monovalve electrical plug and see what happens.
