E300 inner front headlight replacement....
Dear forum members:
I love my 98 E300 TD, but it seems I lose a light bulb every three months or so. I am simply tired of bringing into the repair shop just for a light. The warning message in the dashboard drives me nuts and my wife thinks it is much more major than it is. And she never remembers (or cares) how to put the message "behind" the other dashboard data, like temp, mileage time etc. Anyway. Can I do this myself? Can any bulb at the Trak auto work? This time, it is the inner front right headlight on my W210. Any special tools required? I am reasonably handy but I do not have very many tools. I know I am not the only E300 member who is frustrated with this aspect of these otherwise wonderful cars. THANK YOU |

Yes, you can find the bulbs at the auto parts store. Just make sure you get the "European car" bulbs. Usually they are found at the bottom of the display.
You can get that headlight apart, but there is very little clearance on the right hand side. I suggest practicing on the left side light where there is more room so you can see how it comes apart. I agree, the warnings are really annoying. And who would ever think of pressing 'R' to clear the message?

Right or Left
For my own education when you face the engine of your car (from the front)do you still consider the drivers side the left side of the car? IF I was describing the easy light, to practice on, I would have said the right light. I have changed both of the headlight bulbs and I would agree the drivers side is by far the easiest.

There is a tech bulletin concerning the rapid burn-out of these inner lights on the 210 chassis. I am unsure if it was still a problem on 1998's.

Driver's side is the left side. At least in the U.S.

How can I see the tech bulletin? Maybe there is a more permanent fix?
Rick has it right; the drivers side is the left side of the car. My outage is the inside lite on the right side of the car. thanks to everyone |
