Hey gang, I'm going to a 126 from my 123 and have a rebuilt speedo I bought as mine worked off and on...
So what I need to know is if the 126s have the same problems as the 123s do so I can see if I can get a few dollars back from the place I got my speedo from or I'll have to sell it if the 126 odos don't break PM me as I have a nice rebuilt speedo for the 123!. lol Thanks! BTW... the 126 is an '85 SD and the 123 is an '84 300D.

You'll have to double check the part numbers, but I am pretty sure the 126 uses a different kind of speedo than the 123. (the 126 that I have does anyway, although it's a 88 420SEL) The thing that usually goes wrong with the 126 speedos is this little tiny plastic gear. Some turn crazy (similar to the 123 affliction), mine just fell apart.
If you can take a gander at a 126 speedo sometime, peek behind the dial on the left side. You will see 3 gears...one of them really small. That, is the one that goes. I have thought about finding a gear like that at a hobby shop, but had no way of knowing the dia. nor how many teeth it had...so I shelled out the $ for a rebuild. Good Luck ![]() -Larry

My 126 has shown 320,000 on the odometer for at least 2 years. Is that a problem?

Which 123 speedo do you have? 85, 100 or 125mph? And from what year/model?

Well yeah the 126 is diff I'm sure, but maybe it shared the same inherent problems as the 123s did.
I do know that they break when the tripodometer is reset when the vehicle is moving also. Hrm... more to think about. lol Thanks! ![]()

I have two 126's...
On my "85 the odometer and speedometer works. On my '82 niether of them work.
Who needs a speedometer? I don't have any trouble knowing how fast I am going. There always seems to be a nice friendly officer nearby to give me the info that I need...for a fee of course ![]() Kevin |

The w126 odometer is different. Mine stopped last year after clicking for a couple of months. Took it out, looked at it. Spun one of the accessible gears by hand... it was stiff, sprayed some oil in there (WD40? can't remember). Spun gears by hand some more... became easier to spin, and put it back in. Worked fine since, but now making clicking noises again. But now I know the fix.
