1982 W123 climate control

Ok, I'm having trouble determining whether this is a monovalve problem or not. It was 37F this morning, and I needed heat. I turned the temp wheel to MAX, and hit the middle button on the CC switch. Nothing but cold air came out. I thought if I drove around a little bit, it would eventually warm up. It did not warm up. So, I'm thinking this is a monovalve problem. But, last week, it was close to 80F outside, and the only way I could get cool air in the car was to set the temp to MIN, anything other than MIN would get me HOT air. So, what's the deal here, do I have a broken sensor, or monovalve or what?
