Thumbs up Just a reminder

Jimmy you got it!!! It was a live demonstration that the search DOES work. Thanx.

BTW, the consensus was clean with rubbing alchohol and lube it with White Lightning, a motorcycle chain lube, WD 40, or any silicon based lube. Just nothing that will attract dirt or sand.

I also wish that people would search before they post the same old stuff over and over. All of the duplicate threads make searching more tedious. At the same time I wish that people would post links when they talk about old threads and searches. BTW if you use some reliable usernames in your searches you can weed-out much of the chatter.

Did you see the search sticky at the top of the forum?
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=85026 I am not trying to bust your chops, but maybe you can see the irony in posting this thread.

We have to keep in mind that this site must sell parts to survive and entertainment is good for business. People like to interact. This is a great forum but it could get better instead of getting watered-down.

I wish people would think about the next person along, here, on the highway and everywhere else. Happy Holidays.

Twitchkitty,
I'm not understanding your apparant problem with tomm9298's post. He did use the search, and his post was a rather specific example of how it can work out.
What we really need is a search function where it can look for more than one word, and only pull up threads that include both words. (It doesn't do that, right?) That is the main detraction in my opinion from the search feature. Sometimes you can read multiple threads containing multiple posts and never find what you are looking for, just because one word can be in so many posts.
By the way, and not to argue the appropriateness of searching, but alot of the reasons for forums IS interaction. Folks that know things like to help other folks, and some help just to show how much they know (takes all kinds). If someone doesn't want to type out an answer for the 50th time, he has the power to not answer.
Note: Oil questions will always be a life-draining force to most of we forumites. Our Kryptonite...

Unhappy Jeez

Jimmy is correct again. Sometimes the search does produce more results than needed. I did not intend to start a conflict. It's just that when I first used the search I thought it used a "boolean function", and could not understand why I got unrelated results from my searches. Sorry for all the trouble. Maybe a moderator should kill this thread.

JimmyL is exactly right. i was scolded for not using the search, ok, i tried it but got many pages of "junk" to sift through. not that my time is more valuable than the next guys but, i don't have hours to read through everything.... including all the "hijacked" threads. if it searched for all the words i put in, it would sift most of that out.
so, that's why i don't use the search very often.

Maybe we could agree to stop admonishing those who've been members for over a year to 'use the search'. Chances are, they have- and been unable to find exactly what they are after.

Suppose i went to the doctor and said: "Doc, my throats sore and i have a fever". Doc said " Too bad, I just diagnosed that four time today and i'm tired of telling people, go look it up yourself".
boy, i'd be impressed with that Doc, wouldn't you?
then, when i did a search for "sore throat" i would get everything about "sore" and everything about "throats".
if it's too much trouble to answer a question already asked, then just ignore it. someone else will answer. what's the big deal?

Agreed. Not to mention, what else are we going to talk about? How many new and undiscussed unique problems are we going to run into? The fact that you can't search and require multiple words makes it tough sometimes.

Never meant for my posts to come accross as mean spirited in any way. Just a discussion topic which will often yeild differing views.
Certainly wasn't chiding Twitchkitty in any way. He is often a valuable contributer in our quest to smooth out our MB problems.
Have I ever mentioned my car smokes.......

have you tried "the patch". worked for my sister.
no, your comments brought out a good point... somethings are easily "searchable", but others aren't.
the "mean" people are the ones who just say "go fish/search". it's like we are talking to them only, but we are asking EVERYONE, so if they don't like the question, don't comment.
there, that's my 2 centavos.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be mean but I am usually in a hurry and sometimes am overly brief. I am also somewhat of a social retard and don't anticipate well how people will react to what I type.

The search will work for more than one word but you have to go to advanced search to get any meaningful results. You can narrow down searches by adding more words and by specifying a username. You can specify the forum to search in and search titles only or the whole thread. There are a good many options available. But it is still frustrating sometimes.

If you just can't get anywhere with the forum search you can use google and specify mercedesshop.com as the domain for the search.

Yes, the search really does work. I am surprised that you are surprised.
