Could anyone tell me what the pistons in the 617 turbo diesels are composed of?

There are a few aluminum alloys which are used specifically for automotive pistons, but no, I don't know what they used. It sure is good stuff though

no, the pistons are an aluminum alloy with steel inserts cast in around the compression rings.

Last time I checked with the Goetze guys, I was told there is little difference in the material used for n/a or turbo engines for the OM 616/617 series, they are all composed of aluminum alloy, nikasil and impregnated with moly coat.
