Last time I checked with the Goetze guys, I was told there is little difference in the material used for n/a or turbo engines for the OM 616/617 series, they are all composed of aluminum alloy, nikasil and impregnated with moly coat.
Does not sulfur destroy nickasil?

No one asked me... LOL

That would not surprise me... I do think there is a lot of difference in the design of the two ... which would allow any good piston material to be used for both... the oil squirters and annular ring making the difference...
