eBay: another mystery : Mercedes Hub Cap Painting Stencil, why so much?

Why are people will to pay so much for a tool to mask hubcaps from old cars for painting? And why isn't the seller willing to accept this seemingly exorbitant bid? Next bid was $490 when I posted this. Why didn't I eat breakfast? Maybe I am lacking the proper nutrition to fathom this mystery.

Whatever happened to the good old days of using masking tape and newspaper?

Because this isn't a tool, it's an artifact. It has to be one of the three remaining hubcap stencils left on the planet.

I guess if you have a lot of disposable income and want to collect this stuff it might be something to pursue... but to buy it for actual use??

That would have been pretty cool to have. Remember taping off my caps on the old 81 300D.

Samstagsales used to have the center section here, but now says it is no longer available. If I remember correctly, it was a couple hundered bucks when they had it. This was discussed in the Vintage section and somebody said the tool never worked all that well in the first place.

Interesting that at $485 the reserve is not met, yet the text below says it is a no reserve auction.

Yeah I know....freaking high reserve!
All I can say is 'Ca'Ching!' that guy/girl is making some quick cash on something they probably never had any use for...
