Diesel fuel substitute mentioned on Tonight's episode of King of the Hill

I was watching King of the Hill, where Hank and Bobby were trucking to Arizona, and Boomhauer, Bill, and Dale as stowaways, and then cabmates get the rig stuck on top of a mountain at the end of a road. They either get low on fuel, or run out, and Hank mentions that the kerosene in the old kerosene lamps they have as part of their load is close to diesel fuel and they can use it. I wonder, does Mike Judge or one of the writers have a diesel vehicle? A diesel MB I hope?
