What is the BEST brand of oil cooler lines?
What are the best lasting oil cooler lines as far as brand. I am going to go ahead the replace them on the 1982 300sd. Will I lose all of my oil? I just had it changed. And how difficult is it to get these out and back in again?
I read a previous post that said there were problems with leaking crimps on some repalcement brands. Someone said to use Continental rubber hoses. The ones on fast lane are not specific. allEURASIANautoparts.com has them less expensive than fastlane, and theirs are the same part number. I can also pick them up in the Raleigh, NC area if I can find them. Let me know how to do this job and the best hoses.

IMHO the best ones are the genuine Mercedes ones as they are wrapped reinforced rubber.

Will, I'd call your local MB dealer and talk to the parts man. Check out the price and double check the brand. Hoses are important, but also the crimp that one does to put fittings on is important. Call Phil at Fastlane and ask him as well.

This is one time you really should buy OE parts. Get a price from your local dealer and then give Phil a call. MB hoses are wrapped and seem to be of very high quality.

The lines I bought recently look very well made too, and about $55 each. Sometimes paying more mostly just costs you more. Who here has had an oil cooler line failure on a new hose that they or their mechanic has installed?

I did. I just bought two aftermarket oil cooler hoses because my factory lower house had a tiny leak. We replaced both hoses with german aftermarket parts and put everything back together. I was trying to get rid of all of my oil leaks. Now my upper hose sprays oil all over the place while driving long distances. It seems to be coming from the fitting right where the steel tubing is connected to. Now we have to do the job all over again. I would stick to OEM parts from now on.

bummer, do you happen to remember what brand that was? Or can you identify any markings or features that might distinguish that particular make?

I also had a brand new replacement hose develop a pinhole leak right in the middle of the hose after a few miles ( I can't remember if it was a Conti or Cohine). I bought it from Rusty and he replaced that one with a real Mercedes-
I'm willing to bet it was a fluke though because I bought aftermarkets for the 240D and 300SD.
