They made one in the late 70's early 80's but only sold them overseas....not the U.S.(I think) A friend of mine in Costa Rica had one, turbodiesel column shift 4 speed, turbo removed at some point, rusted to hell but ran strong...not sure of the motor though 4 or 5 cyl maybe? Anyone else hear of these? Looked kinda like a 220d with a pickup bed...

MB Tempo division makes MB trucks and have made with OM 616/617 turbo and non turbo engines, lots of them were sold in India. Till today you can see the Tempo Trax running with 30 passengers or 4 ton load on the poor OM 616 engine.

Yes, they do and have done so for years. All their vans were available as truck chassis, including crew cabs. The continue to do so with Sprinters and these vehicles are now available in the USA. The vans have been selling here for about 3 years but recently they just started bringing in the cab/chassis versions that can be configured as drop-sided pick-up trucks.
You can find gazillions of campers and motorhomes in Europe on MB truck chassis. I have a van conversion here and owned a Class A motorhome on a 307d chassis with the 616 engine in Europe.

I was just looking at Dodge Sprinters last night.. man they aren't cheap.

But if I could talk my wife out of $40k I'd buy one and get rid of the Chevy Astro.
