It's fallen and it won't stay up.



My Map light or interior light that's above the dash keeps falling down on my 126, it could be that the headliner part is deteriorating a bit. Any solutions to keeping it up? It nags me every time I hit a bump in the road. :P

Probably a dislodged or broken clip or spring on the lamp itself.

Well the clamps are still there, I disconnected the sun roof awhile back, because it needs work to slide back properly. Now the map/light housing is loose and it falls out dangling, until i push it back up. The headliner that it fits into seems to be brittle around the edges, so that could be the reason. I'm wodering what you do to build it up, without glueing it?

And I was about to recommend a good Dr.!!! :eek:

Tom, rather than replace a bunch of expensive parts, you might get away with a touch of silicone along the edge of the switch. You could put a small layer on and allow it to dry with the switch out. Then you would get the additional friction needed to hold it in place. You would not have a mess of the switch siliconed to the headliner.

Thanks Brian, You'd have to mention Silicone. I was thinking about doing that. I just hate silicone it gets so messy, but hey what would we do without it. I'll try building it up and see what happens. :bulb:

Yeah, I hate it myself. But, I use it all the time in house repairs. You should be thankful that I suggested silicone. If you want to see a real mess, try and use some of the expanding foam that is sold for sealing around the window and doors. :eek:

With the silicone, I'm thinking that you just put a bit around the outside of the switch and run your finger along it to smooth it out. It will add .030 thickness all the way around, or so, and that might be all that you need.

Of course, said finger must be immediately removed from 300 SDL before catastrophy occurs. :D

WARNING............... I can promise you that you will never get the expanding foam off of your finger without it wearing off after a few weeks. The worst part is that it picks up dirt so it gets black quick. Ask me how I know, it was not a fun day. :mad:

Did the job on Friday and I think it will all be gone by tomorrow. I helped it along with Acetone before it fully dried on, however.

I had the cap of a can essentially crack and empty 80% of the bottle on my hand, wrist, and half way up my arm. The stuff on my arm took 2 months to fully come off. I haven't touched the stuff yet.
