please help me with a engine swap

i have a 1981 300sd.. 129k miles... mint mint mint... all original...
the engine went out.. it broke a rod.... so im trying to put another engine from a 79 300sd... is it hard? do i need special tools..??? i have to get this car rolling.. its so clean.and well kept ...it belonged to an old lady.. i guess because of no oil the rod broke...
do i need to take out the engine and tranny together... ??? thanks for the help....

Do a search on here on engine swap. Not really any special tools required. Pull the engine and tranny together. I believe the trannys are going to be a little different so you will want to keep the tranny with the engine. I know the torque converters are not interchangeable.

Not hard but kinda physically demanding.
