80 Amo Fuse

The 80 amp fuse in my glow plug relay has burned out. I checked
all the usual online sources and no one carries it or lists it in their online
catalog. Is this fuse a dealer only item or is their another source that I
don't know about?

I have consulted my diesel Ouija board  and concluded you have an '81 SD. Call Phil (our host) at Fastlane. He'll have it.

Thanks.
And your Ouija board is accurate.

If it's an emergency, you can make one by cutting up an aluminum beer can. Works well.

That's a $1.89 part at the dealership....... Bailing wire worked for me to get to the dealership when mine died. And then in wild and crazy spending frenzy - I bought two and taped one as a spare on the firewall.

I got a spare for $.37 on-line if I remember correctly.

Jump the poles with anything if you need to get the car started. A little peice of wire should work well. I got mine from the dealer for a little over $1.50 each. Now that I have a spare it will never break. :D

I experienced the same problem last weekend with my 87 300D. When my 80 amp strip fuse went out, the heat must have so great that it caught the plastic glow plug relay on fire. Fortunately, I smelled it when I later took the garbage out to the garbage cans in the garage and I put the small fire out before it did any significant damage.

On line, you might try ******** AZ as they have the 80 amp strip fuse listed in their 123 section.

I ended up just getting a couple at the dealership, $1.50 each. I bought two
and tossed the unused one in my toolbox. While I was at the dealership I watched a women pay $130.00 for wooden gearshift knob. Is it just me, or is that way too much for a gear shift knob. She also wanted to know if installation was extra.
