You might want to extend that pipe beyond the body an inch or two. Otherwise you will end up with some black doors.

I had a wagon once that was missing the whole exhaust and it was really rude sounding. You could really hear the turbo spooling, but the resonation at highway speed was too loud.

I could hear it. It doesn't sound like turbo spool because of the distortion but it's that hissing sound that continues a few seconds after he lets off the throttle....sounds cool..

Well it depends on the turbo. Garetts and KKK's have very distinct sounds. One is deep and less typical of the traditional turbo sound while the other has a strong whistle and sounds like a regular turbo. I think KKK's are the whistlers while garetts don't. In any case I have the deeper and less whistle one.

While there is some audio distortion it is pretty close. You really can't hear the turbo wind up, just wind back down. When I had a hole at the top of the banjo part of my down pipe you could hear it wind up but when it goes under the car it is no more.

Even though I dont own my own mercedes diesel like the rest of you guys, I have a lot of experience with diesel cars and pickup trucks. If the foremost thing you guys are going after is turbo whistle... then you guys have to go with a straight pipe. I had 4" stainless pipe for turbo back on my F250 diesel with a 7" magnaflow muffler ( straight through design) . The straight through design though still restricts noise a ton. My advice is to get a completely straight piped system to maximize turbo whistle. In order to get the most out of it stop it a little after the downpipe, just so sound doesnt travel as far through pipes, and gets muffled. I know this is far from what you guys are use to with turbo spooling, but just listen to the spool of this truck at idle after it has been " straight piped". This is not my truck but it should be helpful in proving to u guys to get a straight piped exhaust. Muffler made a huge difference on my truck, and as long as im not floggin it when im next to a cop I have never had a problem, although they may be more inclined to pull over a car for exhaust then a truck. Hope it helps u too decide.

I was wondering what a OM617 sounded iwth the muffler removed and the resonators in place. Has anybody tried this and can tell us how it sounds?

When i had straight piped the SD i could hear the whistling after revving the car high and letting go of the pedal. And the SD's turbo was a Garett.
