85 300D Late Shifts??
I am getting late shifts in my 300D auto tranny. I need to crank it out to get it to go to fourth, where it will stay momentarily, then it will jump back to third on the highway. This is a sudden thing; wasn't like this before. Fluid ok. Could I have dislodged a vacuem hose or something? I just changed the oil, oil filter, fuel filters and air filter. Downshifts fine (in fact, that's the problem). No slippage yet detected. Just seems to be off all of a sudden. I checked the forum on this and found nada. Thanks for any help in advance.

I will bump you back to the top so someone may see this in the morning.
If you keep the accelerator pedal to the floor does it shift ok? You say the fluid is ok, has it and the filter been changed within the service interval You could read about the vacuum control valve if you haven't already. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=82748&highlight=control+valve These are other links I saved on the vacuum system, they do not all apply to your car but I want to be able to find them when I want them. If unable to find anything, bypass the vacuum control of gearbox by applying full vacuum to gearbox. Shifts should now be early, unless kickdown switch is activated. If this is the case, you have problems with vacuum switches of control valve.

rblookc,
Changing the oil filter and working in the area around the injection pump gives you the opportunity to accidentally dislodge a vacuum line here and there. A common event is after changing the oil filter on a 617 or 616 engined auto that the owner will report it won't shut off. There is a cluster of vacuum lines and distribution fittings in the area that can be easily dislodged and can wreak havoc on any vacuum controls under the hood. I would check and recheck all the vacuum connections in the area per the earlier post by TwitchKitty. Good luck, Jim

This has to be what is up, but I dont have a diagram of the 617 vacuem system,! The line with the prefilter looking filter gadget (right near the oil filter) is totally detached from whatever it was attached to behind the grommet toward the cabin. I cant find the right line to the tranny. I know some things about this engine, but vacuem is uncharted for me. I will read some threads, but if anyone knows of diagrams on threads, or some local knowledge/trustworthy mechanics in Boston area, please let me know. I need to learn what goes where. This is really frustrating. I also detached about a year ago the lines to the interior locks because they were half working, so I have detached lines and such. It's a bloody hose salad.
