IP+synth oil

Has anyone made any observations as to the condition of their IP's running synth versus dino. Since I switched to Mobil1 this winter the engine runs sweeter than it ever has before. I wonder what effect synth has on our IP's?

Question Why

in the world would it have any effect on the injection pump.
All the synthetic is on the lubrication side of pump = better lubrication.
If you want to wreck the engine, burn synthetic oil as fuel = bad news.

Because I am young and curious, is this simply becuase the synthetic coats everything with its "special stuff" and messes things up?

Just better lube, thanks, that's all I wanted to know. Wait a minute, isn't better lube an effect?

Synthetic oils are all poly-ester or poly ether synthetic base with various additives. They contain less zinc stearate that dino oils, and will burn very clean (as you can see if you have a gasser that burns oil -- the plugs foul much more slowly).

I do not recommend burning used motor oil of any kind in the engine, the soot is VERY hard on the nozzles.

The IP on modern MB diesels is lubricated on the bottom side by engine oil, so it will get all the benefits of synthetic oils -- cleaner parts, less "sticking" of plungers, less varnish, etc, and this may have an effect on IP operation, particularly on the "fill" stroke of the plunger where only a spring and light (30 psi or less) fuel pressure push the plunger back down to fill the chamber. There should be no effect at all on the fuel delivery side.
