Is boost gauge really usefull?
Is a boost pressure gauge really usefull if I am NOT planning on putting in an adjustable boost pressure device, and NOT really interested in performance tuning enhancements. I can see that it may be interesting to see what the boost pressure is periodically, but I can do that diagnostic temporarily by installing a guage.
By comparison, I think a volt meter is most usefull to install permanently due to expected and more frequent failure of battery, alternator, voltage regulator, etc. But the turbo in an MBZ diesel is a real long lasting work horse. Note....this is an honest question...if i've got it wrong, let me know.....i'm just trying to figure out what additional gauges I should install for my own needs....at the current time, i'm thinking that for my purposes, only a voltage gauge is needed. Thanks, Mark

MB obviously didn't think it was too important to install one. The vehicle is under at least partial boost most of the time, pretty much all the time during highway driving. Sure, I'd like to have one too, but obviously it's not a necessity. It's probably worthwhile though to attach one temporarily to see if things are working properly.

They are cheap and if you have less than normal boost you will be alerted to it....

I don't see how measuring the boost pressure will tell you anything about the state of the vacuum system? The two are, well, rather completely unrelated.
A voltmeter is a good thing to have, oil temp would be nice too. Kevin

KC is right. The boost and the vacuum system are totally unrelated.
