Lincoln Mark with bimmer 524td engine

I just discovered this interesting version offered in the 80s by lincoln. I am interested in these things. I wonder how good they were. Anyone know anything about them???

I believe the engine was sound, but the rest of the car was the usual '80s domestic crap. Really cheesy plastic, crappy overstuffed seats that weren't comfortable after the first hour but look plush, terrible body panel fit, you get the picture.

I bet you'd have trouble finding parts for the motor.

I think these cars were orphans almost from the get go. I am not sure what the service arrangements were beween Lincoln and BMW but I heard a story where a non-running vehicle was flat-bedded back and forth multiple times between the two dealers each saying the problem was the others. If I remember correctly some part in the wiring harness fried. Neither dealer had the part listed and thus refused to deal with it. Also the car is rare - a mechanic acquaintance said 6 were sold in the entire Chicagoland area. He said he worked on them all as he was one of the few guys who would tackle them. Yes, a rare car but parts and support would be quite an adventure.

I would imagine you could find support from a BMW forum similar to ours and I would imagine engine parts would be as obtainable as for any other Bimmer. As far as parts for the Lincoln part of the car, any self service yard would have some gasser versions. I would also imagine many parts could be found from any Ford product as they used many parts interchangeably.

I have one!!! Check my web page to see a picture. They are tougher to get fixed for sure. They run very smooth, quiet like the newer version diesels, and are very quick, mine is an LSC, so it has the recaro-type, multi adjustable seats, relatively firm susupension, with airbag suspension, can take a corner well, and has a nice ride on the freeway, a completely different feel than a Mercedes of course. Also, Ford carries no running gear parts, and hasnt for 10 years, have to get them through BMW, and still can.

My neighbor had a Lincoln diesel. I did not even know it was a diesel until he told me that he sold it. I sure would have been interested. I am not a Ford fan, but a Ford with a BMW engine is really interesting. He said that he regrets selling it because it was a very good car.

300sdlguy,
Your Lincoln is a neat looking car. I like the look of the coupe. Which is faster? The SDL or the Lincoln?

There's an RV dealer in Iowa that specializes in the Vixen motorhomes which have the same engines. I'm betting it's the best source of info on the engine in the country. The Vixen is one of the most innovative and cool motorhomes ever made in the US in my opinion. In later years of production they switched to a GM v-6 in place of the diesel.
