People with 01 and up 210 Chasis, help needed

I had to change my deck lid. The deck lid that I had was superceeded by what I have now. On the deck lid is what I believe the call the handle. This is a plastic piece that is about 2 feet long. It sorta holds the licence plates lights in place. My old unit had 3 of those nuts that look like the licence plate fasteners. When you take out the fastners, you see 3 hex holes in the deck lid at that part. The handle screws into the deck lid via 3 screws and all 3 of them go into the hex nuts. My new one has 2 hexagonal holes and the center hole is round. The parts shop is at a loss to tell me what goes in the center hole.

I looked at the 2001 E class as far as the rear deck handle or whatever they call it is and they have 2 screws, 1 on each side and something that might be a carriage bolt in the middle. Can someone tell me what the center bolt is? It looks like a carriage bolt but I am not sure. If someone has the parts number, that would be great.

From the EPC -

Through 99, the handle 210 758 01 38 is held by 2 screws 007985 005187 (AM5x16-A2-70) into 2 nuts 140 990 06 58. From 00 on, the handle 210 750 04 93 is held by 2 screws 007985 005187 (AM5x16-A2-70) into 2 riveted nuts 210 990 12 58 and a central screw 000 990 12 29 into a nut 124 990 04 51.

I hope this helps.

The handle I took off is 210 758 05 38. The parts guy said the part number, should I need it is 210 758 01 38. Just like you said. Maybe they changed suppliers or something. Dealer said I would need 3 nuts 140 990 06 58. The nuts fit 2 holes on the side but not the center.

The center hole on the handle looks like instead of having a round hole, it has a square which is what made me think carraige bolt. Anyways, the old deck lid has 3 hex holes. The parts department said that it takes 3 nuts 140 990 06 58.

The new deck lid has 2 hex holes and 1 round hole. I saw the 01 210 cars and saw that the middle hole has something that looks like a carriage bolt where the top is smooth.

The new handle for the 01 cars is 210 750 04 93. Once again, like you said. Perhaps tomorrow I will go get the parts you speak of and see what transpires. If I had to, I suppose I will get a new handle to go with those parts.

Thise leaves 2 questions:

1. What is your source where the parts people were stumped?

2. Why weren't you behind that counter when I was there?

I will go to the parts store with these numbers and maybe I can get some resolution.

1) EPC. There's a newer version than the one I have so maybe there's later information. Ask speedy300Dturbo (or something like that) about it.

2) I was but you looked like you had a difficult parts query so I pretended to have something else to do :)
