I mean no ill will towards VW. I'm happy to see any old bug, bus or other vintage VW in service still. I also think the new Passat 2.0 5speed is a great car and stop and look anytime I hear a Jetta TDI. I'm thinking along the lines of the more pedestrian 1985 Jetta or some 80's VW. I'm not sure since I don't know VW's that well, but I don't think there are as many obsessive owners about those years as there is MB. Who really cares anyways, to each their own.
But the point is, they were comparing a 2003 VW to a 1983 MB and laughing at it. Anyways, I hope that clears up my position a bit. :hanged: |
I wasn't laughing at all, but in my defense it kind of sucks that after all my raving about how reliable older Mercedes are,the one time it really had a problem, was with me, so they still have little crap going wrong with them just like VW. It's just the quirkiness of a german car, i suppose. I'm german, maybe it only likes americans since it's been here so long? lol I'm still getting one. Anybody interested in a 2003 VW Golf TDI with 38,000 miles on it? Very well taken care of by a german diesel head, never in an accident, all service records? located in so cal... i need to get rid of my car payment :D

Had A Bug Up My Butt
I kind of get carried away some times hence the name Tangent
The 80’s VW Heads are just as passionate about their VWs |
No car is without problems... "The most reliable car in the world" is still going to break down, need repairs, misbehave, and otherwise cause you trouble. The only way to avoid it is to walk.
Sorry they were making fun of your old MB, but the point is still there, have them compare cars of the same age, and you'll find the MB is doing very well. A friend of mine has several early 80s VWs, all in various states of operation, but she is very passionate about them, and keeps them all running despite very high mileages. They are good cars too, I'd say. I prefer my MB, but the VWs are definitely simpler and easier to fix. peace, sam |

A friend of mine loves her 79 baby blue rabbit almost as much as I love my 300SD!
Its a 1.6L gasser...needs rod bearings and a transmission resealing job and new CV boots... But for a car build in 1979...and being gas....I'd say its doing alright :-D I love German stuff...but sometimes it doesn't love me! (looks at wounded hands) |
