what is this car worth?

I looked at a 1983 MB TD wagon that has been sitting for a couple of years. It is in the parking lot at a generator service company I deal with a lot, and belongs to an older man who bought it new.

It has 300,000 miles, but the engine and trans were replaced by MB under warranty (?) at 150,000 miles.

This guy always used Mobil 1, and took good care of the car. It has a new radiator, hoses, AC was serviced etc. He spent about 3000 on repairs just before he quit driving the car. It started right up, and all of the suspension and steering parts look tight

Since it was driven between Albuquerque and El Paso, it has never seen any salt. There are absolutely no rust spots or major dents on the car.

The paint is wasted from the sun. The interior is also shot, and there are about 20 holes in the panels from the 3-amplifier 1985 Alpine stereo install.

I talked to the owner, and he tossed out the number $1200. I'm thinking $500. I could probably find a rust victim with a decent interior, then get a paint job. I can't decide if it's worth the effort. I could also sell it in parts.

Feedback please.

Tough question...

No pictures.
Best guess from description:
$1,200.00 too $800.00 USD...
If it moves and runs, transmission and engine sound to be in good condition.
Sorry to leave such a wide margin would need pictures to do better.
From the sound of it, if one of the snipers on the forum find out where it is, it will be gone by tomorrow.

If the AC works, the car has been taken good care of.

If the body is good (just bad paint), then 1200$ - 1000$ would be a good deal, I'd say. 150k on the motor is awesome, its less than halfway done! Interior work is slow and can be expensive, but if you take your time, you can do it bit by bit, or use the car as a workhorse.

Wagons are getting more and more rare.

peace,
sam

FWIW-I just bought 'Passion Flower' ('85 300TD) for $700. Runs, windows don't work, a/c doesn't work and interior is rough.
