Transmission modulator '82 300D
I need to replace the transmission modulator valve in my '82 300D. It looks like an easy job, except for the usual complications caused by lack of access. Will removing the transmission mount lower the transmission enough to access the modulator, or is it necessary to remove the engine mount(s) as well? Any insight will be most appreciated.

Removing the transmission mount is a must. I would recommend removing motor mounts as well, I didn't and it still leaks. If you remove the motor mounts, replace them as well if there is any doubt in if they are good or not. This job is a royal PITA, unless the transmission is removed then its a 5 minute job.

recently replaced the modulator in my 83 300D. Found that I had to shorten my allen key to get it to fit. No other issues, no leaks. Found it to be a simple job. Make sure you lubricate the o-ring liberally with ATF before installing it. Also, don't overtighten it. Good luck
