Temptation - 1990 350SDL for sale on ebay
Danger -- Will Robinson – Danger
You just want these cars to be right…but you know in your heart lurks the potential for a real nightmare situation. |
It's a good looking vehicle.
However, there is no way of really knowing if the engine has "problems" right now. If you go down and drive it before the auction ends, you still cannot confirm, with certainty, that it's not drinking oil at an excessive rate. It's one thing to buy it in good condition and keep your fingers crossed. It's quite another to buy it and immediately face the prospect of a new engine. |
Very nice interior. I like this stlye of seats and doors.
|
Price skyrocketed overnight  $7.2K
|
sits low in rear
car looks like rear end is sitting low - bad differential mount and rear subframe mounts??
|
I'm scared of 'em, but if you want me to take a look, call my cell

I had it on my watch list until it broke $4K - think I was just more interested in spending the weekend in Orlando ;)

Looking at the seller's feedback, I notice that the auction numbers for many of his sales are listed as "private". Even if those auctions are recent enough to still be in the eBay system, one can't view them.
(Edited to add: one can view recent auctions (up to 30 days) by performing a search on completed items from this seller. However, the bidder IDs are private, so there's no easy way to connect feedback to auction. So, the auctions are there, but no links to them are provided on the feedback page.) If I'm trying to evaluate the feedback left by buyers (and any responses from the seller), it sure helps to be able to see what was bought, how much was paid for it, how it was described in the auction, how it looked, etc. This can help to take the edge off of an unreasonable negative feedback comment; for example, sometimes it's clear that the buyer is disappointed because he imagined something much, much better than was presented. For positive comments, it's also free advertising - the prospective bidder can drool over some of the great cars the seller has already sold to satisfied buyers. What am I missing here? How can such a policy be good (for a good seller)? (Count me among the droolers here, too - the car looks nice!) |

That does it, I'm cashing in my 401K and buying 1980's MB diesels. I'll put them in storage, and in 20 years I'll sell them on EBAY and buy my own private island. |
