Ouch...(Wrecked w123)

What, exactly, do you have to hit, and at what speed to do that to a wheel/fender. Sheesh. Passengers cabin is barely dinged, though. Love these old tanks!

Looks like he was pissing around with the radio drifted off to the left and hit a bridge abuttment or a culvert.

He had to have been going a decent speed too, to get that kind of damage

ouch is right! DAMN! I would buy it the $10 current bid. Plenty of parts still good, complete interior, drivetrain, rear sheet metal, etc...

I think you'd be surprised, and depressed, at how slowly you can be going and still get that kind of damage. Looks like a telephone pole and I'd guess 30-40mph.

The requirement for a 25% deposit seems a bit rich for my blood.

Wonder if he would accept US Postage Stamps to pay for the deposit? Costs me $6 to get a cashiere's check.............

Kevin

As most people would be down right horrified at the damage done to a late model car at next to no speed. I see it every day(salvage yard).

And even more horrified if you survive it and have to pay to have your plastic tinkertoy fixed.

Looks like that w123 crumpled and absorbed impact while preserving the cabin pretty well. I betcha the seatbelt retractor did not work correctly if that is a head mark on the windscreen.

There is a crashed one in town here that is no where near as damaged as that one. Driver side fender is smashed up pretty good. The car looks pretty complete but the salvage yard wants $1k for it.

It really doesn't look that bad. Sure the fender is a ball of tin, and the wheel is twisted 180 degrees, but the car did its job as it was built to. It seems to be every bit as strong as the newer models. Most notably the safety cage is remarkably intact.

It hit the crush zone, and it crumpled fine. However, to twist those control arms and suspension bits like that takes probably a 40 + mph hit into an immobile object. A massive belt, indeed.

You are assuming the driver was wearing a seatbelt.

Same thing here. A local graveyard has one 300td smashed and wants $1000. It is due to the high [at the moment] scrap metal prices according to the owner of the yard.

Funny that before I read any posts my wife and I were commenting on the apparent head mark on the W/S and if the driver even had his/her seatbelt on. Looks painful...think I'll wear mine and check its operation.

Cheers,

Bill

The son had enough brains left to turn off the engine...
I guess the vacuum system still works.

Unless scrap cars are way more pricy there than here, it's not worth nearly a grand, offer $500, if he does not bite he just does not want to bother.

We pay $2.50 a hundred pounds across the scales right now, deductions for tyres and fuel tank being left on.
