Does anyone use or recommend Shell Rotell oil?

I HAVE A 300TD 1982 I HAVE ALWAYS USED IT, CAR HAS 138K ON IT--IT HAS A GOOD TRACK RECORD FOR A DINO OIL--I USE 15-W-40 HERE IN FLORIDA, JUST MY THOUGHTS--DENNIS :sun_smile

I use Rotella-T synthetic, however, I do believe that I have been convinced to switch to Mobil 1 when the current Rotella supply runs out.

I use the Shell Rotella T in most of my diesels. It's a top rated dino oil and I can get it at a good price at almost any Wal-mart.

Not another oil thread :argue: I have been using it since I got my Benz for almost 2 1/2 years with good results...

I use it

I will only use shell rotella 15W-40 from now on in North Carolina Climate. CAstrol 20W-50 is too heavy for winter here and car does not run at proper temp to give any heat in cabin.

Tried Mobil One heavy duty diesel rated oil and I had more oil consumption than with Rotella.

The Mercedes dealer mechanic here highly reccomends Rotella unless I want to pay high dollar for synthetic and he personally told me not to do so since I still had to change my oil every 2500-3000miles with synth.

At this point I will use any oil, once I poored in some oil from 1988, that has just been sitting around for a while...

The Shell Rotella T 5-40 has given me very good results in both my Benz and my VW and my '68 F250 gasser. It's not a bad price and seems to do the job.

2500-3000 miles with synthetic oil,I will disagree with that...I run Amsoil synthetic oil 15,000 miles before oil change, just keep the filter change every 4000-5000 miles.

I've heard good stuff about it from a bud of mine that wrenches on Cummins' for a living.

I run Castrol in my SD with a Heingst (sp?) erl filter. I believe a quality filter has a lot more to do with the life of the motor than simply oil. Sticking to a quality oil and you should be fine. Valvoline, Castrol, or Shell are all great dino oils.

I run 15W40... I dunno if running 20W50 would be better.

Willrev,

Your mechanic is full of crap that you have to change oil every 3000 miles when using synthetic. Even MB recommends much longer oil changes when using synthetic oil.

People that had oil analysis done have reported that 10,000 mile oil changes or more is sufficient.

Does your mechanic do the oil changes for you? Does he own a big boat?
