I got to 139 mph once in the '87, but that was a fluke and a half. I don't believe myself or my car's speedometer.

Absolutely. Top speed should be about 130 mph. Something is not right here.

I had the SDL up to 115 for about a mile. It could have done more if I had more road. With the straight pipe I maintained 105 uphill. There seems to be more power available at higher engine speeds now.

I had the Beetle up to an indicated 134 (about 132 actual) in the mountains. That was pretty much topped out.

Cool

My NA '84 300D has taken me to 150 km/h on one country trip. Quiet winding road, sunroof open, Pink Floyd on the CD with the wick cranked up. The old girl gripped the road like ***** on a blanket. Smooth, some pedal left, and still got 10 km/l (28.4 imp MPG)

Not a Benz, but my 02 VW Golf TDI 5 speed will do 114mph with a full load. Weight isnt too much of a factor for top speed, so I like to think the car riding lower allows it to have less lift.

Fastest I have gone was in a German spec 2001 745i (really cool, short wheelbase V8 without a sunroof). I did the math a while ago and it was about 130mph. I lost the nerve to go faster as the car wasnt mine, and I wasnt in Europe.

I had my 300D up to 80 once, after I noticed in my rear view mirror that a Freightliner tractor-trailer was coming alongside me, straddling the lane, and the other lane beside me was full of cars, and I had nowhere else to go but straight, and FAST. That car felt as stable at 80 as it would at 60.

Only 80? I have a hard time keeping my 300D under 85 mph...does yours not have a turbocharger?
Fastest i've taken my 300D Turbo is 95 mph i think...actually i got up to 100mph once but only for about 30 seconds, had to slow due to traffic.

I have a turbo, but you see, I'm not rich like the rest of you speed demons, you all can get speeding tickets and such and brush them off like dust off of your shoulder. Me on the other hand, I like to keep my money. I hardly go above 70 in the city, 75-85 cruising on the open highway. HPD, the Harris County Constable, and the Texas Department of Public safety sure would like to get a hold of some of my bucks for speeding, but nope.

Joe your right about the TXDPS and especially they'll pull you over if you look under 20 for sure. Here in Texas if you get out on the Interstate, you had better go 80+ or you'll get run over.

That's still 122 mph!

Oops, that's knots, not mph. Still have my airplane hat on.

I just had my SDL up to 90 the other day. I know a nice area where cops can't sit and if traffic alows I like to open her up a bit once in awhile. Speed isn't a big deal for these cars, 100 doesn't feel any different then 60. Things just move faster, not to mention the huge potential fines.

Try hitting your brakes hard at 90 holy crap those things work good! The brakes on these cars always impress me, W126's have big heavy rotors up front that can take a lot of heat. Also they stop better once you get some heat in them.
