Cool Finally done with the B2 replacement..

Finally finished the B2 replacement. I knew exactly what it was when it failed, at 260k I've been expecting it. A couple of people questioned whether that was it or not. After it fell out into my hands in 5 pieces I can tell you that it had failed for sure. It took 3 days of searching to find the correct seal to put in with the new bushing, (thanks vwkess). The real challenge was getting the old bushing and seal out. Apparently there are those who have been able to pry them out. I was not so lucky. I fashioned a puller and broke 3 bolts while pulling.. So after fishing the heads out of the tranny I decided to give it one more go and..pop! out comes the bushing and seal... Worst thing I've ever had to do on a car, hands down. I'm a relatively capable mechanic, but nothing ever seems to go smoothly for me... I now think I should have pulled the whole transmission and overhauled it, it would have been the same amount of work. Going back together was a snap, including the new o-ring for the cover that they say you can't replace while the transmission is still in the car. New filter and seal on the pan and we're back in business... Invaluable help from the forum and it's members.. Thanks!

Cool ok then....

You will need an assortment of screwdrivers, a socket set (to let down the transmission) a jack (to support it when you let it down so it doesn't rest on the flex disc) and whatever tool you have to make to get the old seal and bushing out. Make sure you have all the parts to begin with. Remember cleanliness is next to godliness when it comes to your transmission, so clean the area thoroughly before you take the cover off, and make every effort, and it will be hard, to keep things as clean as possible.. Then just let me know if you run into trouble and need me to ship you the little tool I made to pull the old bushing and seal.. If things cooperated, I could do the job again in a couple of hours, instead of a couple of days, lol. The lack of room to work, and the exhaust blocking your line of sight will be hinderances also.. Good luck!
