Does disconnecting Battery disable airbag?

Does disconnecting the Battery disable the airbag? I have to fix my Cluster and I am afraid to set off the airbag...if not, what is the proper procedure..

Why would fixing the cluster risk setting off the airbag?

The factory service manual doesn't mention any need to disable the airbag prior to instrument cluster removal...

NO..............there are capaciters that hold enough of a charge to detonate it.

Follow procedure in the manual TO THE LETTER.......its dangerous.

Don't ask me how....I am not in a position say how to, and how not too.

A few mechanics have very empatheticly told me so...............thats enough for me.

Most airbag systems (i'm not sure about older MBs) have all there airbag wiring in yellow. Hence, don't probe any yellow airbag wires. On newer cars, it's usually a yellow overwrap with some warning labels. I would disconnect the battery and airbag fuse, and still pay attention to what I'm doing. Pulling the cluster shouldn't be a problem, as long as you're not messing with the column too.

on my 126 car there is a ~12 pin red plug in the passenger footwell, under the carpet. That disables the airbag.

Same on 103 124 cars, So it should be there on your diesel.

Check with Gilly or a tech who works on MBs as to specifically how to disable it so it doesn't blow. Lets say you waste 2 hrs of time to ensure it doesn't blow, is that better or worse than taking the chance you trip another wire and blow the bag.
