Yes another injector question.

Hi all.

Happy New Year.

Here goes.

I just took all my injectors apart and soaked them
in cleaner.
Yes, I did one at a time.

Now, I need to torque the injector nozzles on the bodies
and I don't know what the torque spec is.
Can you guys help?

Louis.

PS: What happens when the nozzle ends are cupped?

It may be a golden rule, but like Larry, I don't always use a torque wrench and I have never torqued an injector body back together, nor have I ever torqued an injector into a head!

Why?

I've always been in too big of a hurry, and just took a guess on how tight it should be, based on how hard it was comming off! Sound dumb? May be, but I have been successful without a glitch on many items with exception to head bolts, rod and main bearings! Those I wouldn't think doing without a torque wrench!

I'm not sure what you mean by "cupped nozzle ends" maybe someone here can answer that question as there is nothing on a 603, or 617 injector I'm familiar with that resemble anything cupped, unless yours have become deformed some how! BB

Since I've had them leak at 50-60 ftlb, I normally torque the bodies to 80ftlb and no leaks.

First of all I have to thank you guys for the responses.
I had some problems trying to log in after moving and
changing internet providers.
And forgetting my password didn't help!!

BB: As to "cupping"- from what I understand is that
the area where the needle is located the nozzle has a
small depression in it.
Looks like someone took their tumb and put a small
dent in the nozzle.

Louis.

Louis.

That is "etching" from wear, it's usually in a circle the size of the hole in the heat shield.

A new nozzle face is surface ground flat, there is no "cupping".

Thanks Tom.

Well, one learns something new everyday.

Someone once told me it was called cupping but
I know you have lotsa experience with this
stuff so, you know what your talking about.

But I still have no clear answer to my question.

What is the effect to the daily operation of the
engine?

Also, if I have to change the nozzles, can I use
some good used ones from a set of refurbished
ones?
They are from a non turbo 617 but someone
rebuild and converterd them and put them in my
84 300td.
The had little rubber bands around the injector body.

Louis.
