Check engine light removal - not by me

I know of a certain cheap german brand's franchise dealer which solves the problem of repeated customer visits for check engine lights by removing the bulb. Now recently one of my W210's mysteriously came back after a visit with a dead check engine bulb. I wonder if it was the same malicious incompetence as at the people's car dealer? (with the added twist of covering their tracks by actually replacing a live bulb with a dead one)

Has anyone ever heard of this, or any mechanics ever known this to go on at the dealer's shop?

check eng light

My sister who owns a 1996 E300 diesel non turbo with 79 K on the clock, she has been plagued with a CEL for almost a year now,two trips to the dealer, car was in shop one hr then returned to her with CEL turned off then a week or two later it would return,so she finally took it back to the dealer and I told her to talk with the saled mgr who sold her the car,and request a district rep conference, the sales mgr took the car back to the servive bay and got a top tech an a through check finally foung the prob,#2 cyl glow plug dead, and I told her I thought it was a glow plug but the former techs that serviced the car said it was bad wires and left her in t5he dark.now she has an appointment to get the glow plugs replaced.

Can you get a district rep conference regarding a car out of warranty?

Problem with that is on cars that have emissions tests that is one of the things that are checked.....that failing to light is an automatic failure....

But that is one of the reasons this would get by without someone getting wise....being Diesels are not smogged many places.
