Looking for a Diesel

Hello,
I am finally going to buy myself a Mercedes Diesel. I have been watching ebay and will probably find one there but was wondering if you guys would know of one that would suit me. I want a black with black or grey leather '86 or '87 D or SDL. I would LOVE to find a 300D 5 speed like the one that sold on ebay a few days ago! I'd also like to check out a 190 5 speed if I could find one. Price range is under $4,500 and I am not afraid of miles. Thanks a bunch.

There is a 300SD in my area, trying to recall from memory some of the facts.
1985, 175K, good body (southern car). I did not drive (place was not open) some things that I noticed that were broken, missing, worn out. Light Frames, crack in windshield PS, radio gone, collasped motor mount. Car interior was decent, wasn't leeking oil , dash was solid, front end, guide rods and sway bars appeared fine. The car is for sale in a strip mall the asking price was $3600 (OBO). Been there for about 3 months. Sorry it's not black it's white. I would have called and negotiated but have my mind set on a 124.

The SDL's IMHO are one of the best diesel MB's around. Just look for the usual W126/603 weak points. Head, vac pump, trap ox ect. Do a search on this forum all of these problems have been gone over in great detail.

I would recommed spending more up front and getting the best example you can find, with MB maintaince history is everything. Also have it gone over by someone who knows these cars.

Thanks for the reply guys.
How much damage could the trap oxidizer do in say 200K miles? I have seen a couple with it still on and wondered if that should be something to shy away from. My sister has an '85 300SD that I maintaned for her which is what got me excited about these diesel cars. I haven't driven any others but from what I read on this site the '86-'87 D or SDL is what I want. I would also like to get a nice W116 turbo SD sometime just to have for fun, but am not in a hurry. I want to find just the right one!

In my book the trap ox being on still is a big plus. You will get a lot of nice new parts from the dealer, and maybe even a rental if you play your cards right.
