Thumbs up Name that part! (in trunk, LR)

On my '85 SD there was this big round white object (UFO in appearance) about 7" in diameter and about 4" tall I'd say. This is in the upper left hand corner of the trunk stuffed up there beside the fuel tank. There also is a wiring harness that runs to it... this was disconnected so I hooked it back up. There were three wires to it.

Any clues as to what it is?

Hrm - I BELIEVE this is for the sunroof!!! Mine didn't work what-so-ever earlier now when I flipped the switch quickly I heard it click in the back!!!

So now to figure out how to manually open that mofo and grease it up (and trackdown some Merc slide paste)... then I'll bet I'll have an operational sunroof.

Unhappy

Does that also apply to the egg carton looking type thing in the trunk up under the back window ledge? It's inside the trunk and black plastic, next to the first aid kit hole. Anyone know what that is ?

Should be a hand crank to open it manually on the left side of the trunk somewhere...

Have to wonder if someone didn't unhook that for a reason....like it would only open, not shut hmm....

I could hear the motor try to move it... I think the tracks are heavily soiled. Judging by how soiled this car was inside, I bet you that sunroof was NEVER greased up once in its entire life.

Well - if I fail at it, I can always manually close it.

Ever find out what the white can is?
I found it unpluged on my 86 560 sel. Sunroof works fine. Maybe it is to do with the alarm?

very well could be. the auto-level on my car has been disabled.

I took off the rear panel to see if the tank had been disformed due to suction when i remove the gas cap. going to have the vent checked tomorrow. The gas tank looks perfect, like new. phew!
