Thumbs up Hrm - what color is OE fuel tank in a W126?

I seem to have a small fuel leak from my tank and can't tell if perhaps my tank was replaced or what's going on back there as there are no identifying marks. It does not appear the bolts holding the brackets in place have ever been removed.

FWIW it's black.

Also - how well does that epoxy "Fix-A-Tank" work?

Black last time I checked.

Why is the tank leaking? If you can get the leak area clean enough something like JB weld would probably work well.

Thumbs up

I found a small 1/16"x3/16" (appx) hole in the filler neck. How it got there is beyond me! I'd rather not R&R the entire tank if I can patch the hole and be okay with that stuff.

Would it be best to sand the area lightly down to bare metal to get a better bond as opposed to on the paint?

Yeah you will want to get down to bare metal, also make sure their is no fuel around the area you are going to patch. If the metal is covered in fuel I don't care what you use it wont stick.

I would look for a fuel resistant two part epoxy.

Where On the Filler Neck

You can use a pipe patch on the filler neck if you are lucky...the type of patch that you tighten it up...they use them on pipe leaks...I would clean the area and then put jbweld in the pipe patch(it is usally rubber on the inside of the patch and then tighten it up....Jim
