W126 electric door lock vac pump location?
For some reason my locks stopped locking themselves... I'd like to check the pump first if it's easy to get to prior to tearing off the door panels to replace those pesky diaphragms

The pump for the door locks is located in the trunk in the spare tire well, look in there and in the back right corner is a container with a rubber football-like item in it, the pump is in there.

Found it, looks like a wire was corroded and melted. ONLY problem it has 3 going in and one out. Great. Looks like I'll need to splice in new stuff.
ALSO - what's the average lifespan of that vac pump?

And do they run silent?

I'd guesstimate that they usually last at least 25-30 years of normal use, they're very expensive and also very very high quality pumps. As for running silent, you can usually hear them at least a little bit, they only run about 5 seconds to do a lock cycle, so there's not much of a chance to hear them anyways. The most noticeable sound is the "click" when it turns off. Otherwise its just a small buzzing, sounds like a heavy duty aquarium pump.

Well after crimping the offending wires back together and replacing a fuse... I have doorlocks again!
Tomorrow it's back AGAIN to the boneyards to get that lil plug that I need. I'm about to get on a first name basis with these guys.

No they are not silent, I can hear mine. Heck I can even hear the vac pump on the W140 S600's.
