battery lite on
Well getting tired of changing alternators this will be number 4 this year replaced on 11/2/04 on about 2000 miles.
Have been reading all back alternator threads and have tryed just about everything. I have been getting all alternators from napa here local Was wondering if any one has had any bad rebuilts from napa or am i the only one? This time i am going to change the battery as well as the alternator and try that because i can do it for free. Who knows maybe with all the trouble i have been having with alternators no charging and over charging it is the battery even if it tests ok. So if anybody has any ideas let be know. Thanks Bill |

Caution: (a couple of suggestions)
Is your battery fully charged? If your battery is on its last legs and/or is severely discharged you may be putting a huge strain on that alternator you just installed. If it is a rebuild, and usually is the case, this may be enough to nearly wipe out the diodes.Be sure and charge the battery with a charger overnite before using the alternator.
Also, are you disconnecting the battery? Arcing, even slight, can damage the diodes and regulator. I have seen both of these situations, and personally experienced, damage the alternator. |
