Best place to buy exhaust?

I have been looking online for a muffler for my 300SD. The best price I found was a little over $100. I have the CA model so it looks as though my muffler is a little cheaper than the Fed version. Any ideas where I can get this muffler cheaper?

anywhere on Line is fine...

your last choice is some (not all) muffler shops that seem to charge a lot for parts. On my 240D once, I think I saved $240 by buying it on-line and doing the final weld myself.

uh Brian, he wouldnt have to use Campbell Soup cans...

it might be smarter to use old paint cans. You answer made me laugh very hard, I mean how much lower than $100 can you go?

You would have to go to the Dollar Store.Does this guy buy his underware at garage sales and then dicker with the owner to throw in a few pair of used socks?

Sorry I am frugal. My car is in winter storage right now and I will not be buying for a few months. Thought I'd start looking now to find the best price. Thought I could find one a little lower than that as it is just a muffler. Also thought I could find sound advice on this board. I was mistaken as I thought it devoid of educated mules. .l..

pl dont take it personally, it was a joke about a joke and not a joke about you and i am sorry if I offended you, as i am equally frugal if not more...as you know humor is the best therapy for a lot of things but the laugh was for laughings's sake and not about you

No offense intended. I am quite frugal myself. I honestly thought $100. was a very good price. I'm looking to do exhaust work on the SDL and am looking at $200 for the flex pipe and another $200 for the resonator, if I decide to do it.

You can do it for less than $100. but you would need to use a commercially available muffler and adapt it to the M/B. Most folks are ill equipped to do this, but, if you are handy, it could save you some additional greenbacks.

BTW, I've always admired the condition of the SD. You should be proud of the work you have done to it.

Just remember, you get what you paid for or less, never more. If you buy some $20 exhaust system, are you going to be happy when it rusts out? It depends. If you are going to sell the car in spring, sure, buy the cheapest thing and make it work. If not, buy a good system and have it last for years on years.

I'll sell you a few garbage bags full of it, fresh out of my car. Smells pretty nice, too. How about 10$ plus shipping?

I took a look at the old muffler today. It rusted right at the point where it enters (upstream side). I think that if I buy the muffler (which comes with connecting pipes) I can hang it easily myself.
The old muffler is a TESH part number ME6047.
It has a round cylindrical shape.

All the pics I look at in part catalogs show the CA version with almost like a kidney shape muffler. I am wondering if I have a federal muffler on my car and what the real differences are?

Look here.....
