Ahh, the old ACC..

Well, this weeks interisting ACC quirk is center vent related.

Heat setting, heat at side vents and other bleed's as *normal*. Roll temp up, relays click, air turns cool, but does not bleed into center vent blowing.
Turn unit off and back on and it's fine, till you go to heat again.
Ugh..

I hope it's a relay sticking in the control panel unit, or one of the vac valves behind it. I swear..
It worked good for almost two weeks...

Did anyone ever post that word doc diag manual online for download? I lost mine in my couple hundred gig of stored data.. :(

Did you let it run for a while after heat turned to cold? Mine usually takes a minute before it switches. I think it does so as not to blow hot air in your face.

I think that is accurate...

If I remember there is a test procedure for the center vents that involves shutting the car off, setting the particular selections on the pushbutton unit (might be two buttons at the same time) and then turning on the key and the center vents will blow immediately if the system is working correctly.

Now as far as I can tell they are somehow triggered by outside or ambient temp because in the winter, with the car nice and toasty inside and I flip over to the coldest setting and hit the compressor it will still not blow through the center vents.

Hmm, did not know that.

I noticed it when it was 70 here the other day and it had crawled it's way back to cool air and was blowing like heck from the side vents, fan pretty high, but nothing from the center...

If you figure it out...

Know that other thread about the guy selling the secrets to tranny adjustment. You could title this Zen and the ACC system.

It'll sell millions...;)

Have not tried this but....

This seems like an economical way to rebuild shot vacuum pods. This may or may not be your problem. But, it is still a cheap fix. :D

on it's way...

both pdf and word docs

one time a few years ago was trying to figure out what was wrong with the acc system in one of my cars and actually followed the MBZ CD test instructions for "without tester" from one end ot the other. I mean to tell you that it took reference to about 12 docs to finally get through it and by the time I finished I swear I was more confused than when I started...

Not the guide I was looking for, the one I was thinking about is MB specific, and not very legible. :)

Neat writeup on the Imperial, is it very close to the older MB ACC? Mine is the later electronic type with a monovalve remember..

wolf_walker 01-15-2005 09:34 PM

Oh, fixed it.

Whatever little pin or clip holds the upper center vent acctuator lever to the flapper was, well, gone. Small bolt, double nutted loose and it works again.
I closes quickly, opens slowly, I imagine the pods leaking? Looks like dash removal time...

I also replaced my two temp sensors with a pair from the boneyard, they ohm'd out a little more "cold natured" than mine. Setting of 26C now keeps it comfy again. For another week or two..

ONE DAY! If I stay in MB's, I WILL convert away from this auto junk.
One day.
