What happened to the "Steaky" site?

Anyone know what happened to the great site that had a 123 manual online with downloadable PDF's?

It was a "steaky.org" or something like that???

Still not there. Seems there was someone else with an online manual. I need something not covered in the paper books (repairing the shift assy/return spring in an auto.)

It's been dead for a couple of days now.
Hope it comes back.

The people who print the aftermarket manuals for Mercedes bought that site so they could shut it down.. it was really cutting into their sales...
That is my conspiracy theory for today.....

If someone can grab all the pages I have a spare domain name but no hosting service as of yet and host it for everyone. Or if someone else has web space...?

Are there programs which will download a whole site ?
I read about them way back... I think they were called " URL Grabbers".... but have not seen anything since....
Would be a bummer to have to download each page...

Yes there are programs that do that. It spiders all of the links and grabs everything. The one that I have is older and only grabs static pages. It can't grab PHP or ASP pages deeper than that that page alone. I think the steaky site is all static so we have a shot at grabbing...er...borrowing the information.

Sure, PM me or email me your email address. The program is at home and I can send the program as an attachment after I leave work.

Hmm... it looks like the domain registration expired on Friday. Here's the WHOIS information:

So it's registered to a Lakeside Press, a printing cooperative that's affiliated with the IWW. Socialists! Just the type of people who would provide us proles with the manuals we need to keep our bourgeois cars on the road. The old copies of the main steaky.org site that are viewable at archive.org point to Wisconsin as well. I would guess that these are indeed the original domain registrants, and there was some kind of glitch in the re-registration process. Maybe their hosting service declined to renew their contract, due to the high volume of traffic the site has gotten recently. Serving up all those multi-megabyte PDFs to the public can't be cheap... or legal. Those manuals are copyrighted materials, after all. Hopefully, the site will be back up soon, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I kinda figured this would happen sooner or later, and grabbed a copy of all the W123 related material a few months ago. I used a UNIX program called wget, no idea if a Windoze version or equivalent exists. Does anyone else have copies of the site? I doubt you could get one now, unless the website is still accessible directly by IP address... does anyone know what the IP address of skinnerbox.steaky.org was?

If anyone could send me that W123 material (especially wiring diagrams) I would be immensely greatful.

I work in Beloit, WI (50 mi south of Madison). Maybe I could try and get in touch with the skinnerbox steaky people?

Skinnerbox still Offline!

Hey anyone follow up on renewing skinnerbox's registration? I have the cds, but the site was laid out well and accessable from anywhere. Is anybody going to contact them and offer to pay the fees or give them space?

Just curious,
