keep in mind you already have one of the fastest diesels MB ever made..... If you really want a faster 87, drive a 78 240D for a month and then get your 87 back...

A faster '87 diesel? When I drive our '87 TD, it's hard to keep in under 80. Even after over a year of ownership, I am still thoroughly impressed by the smooth, pushing you in the seat. acceleration, I get from that car. Bear in mind, I normally drive the W123 and my wife drives "her car", the '87. Speed in relative, as someone correctly pointed out, you want more speed, drive a 240 or a 300D, then get back in your '87.

Went from my 603 to a 617 for 2 months, and the 603 suddenly feels so much smoother (however, power from the 617 hits you like a very strong kick if done right).

Yes their are a few companies that make chips for your car to bump the power up.

If it feels too slow, there is a very good possiblilty that you are operating under almost no boost, 3-5psi at best. Spec is around 12.9psi. As the vacuum over electric boost control systems get old, many of them fail and you get almost no boost. Stick a vac gauge inline w/ the alda, run it into the cabin and check boost (holding it in 3rd) at about 4000rpms. If your getting any less than 9-10psi I would start looking into what is making your car NA.
Good Luck....it can be real nightmare chasing down these things. Use the search...there are a coupe of banjo fittings and lines that get clogged and bog down boost too. Diesel purge can help too.

If everything is tip-top add an intercooler and kick the boost up!
Nothing cheap and easy like an additive though. Unless you know a magic chemist that can make some awsome speed solution!

I agree with everything in the above post, however, you cannot use a vacuum gauge to measure the boost. You must obtain a boost gauge for this purpose, because you are measuring pressure and not vacuum.

Yes, that would be right. I mis-spoke. It is difficult to read pressure on a vac gauge....
