"The rear-wheel-drive 300 and Dodge Magnum share about 20 percent of their parts, by value, with the Mercedes-Benz C class and E class. Parts include the front-seat frames and steering columns."

I know that this is going to bother you quite a bit, but Mercedes is using quite a few parts in many Chrysler vehicles. Do you really think that one company is going to have completely separate mechanical parts just because one of their divisions is entitled "Mercedes-Benz"?

Wake up and get with the program.

Old Navy recently bought a Dodge Magnum and it uses a W220 chassis and many common components under the hood.

People buy a Mercedes today because of marketing. They like the three pointed star on the hood and the recognition they get. Whether it shares parts with Chrysler products is irrelevant. M/B has the star, Chrysler does not.

That makes them Mercedes-Benzes? That's pretty shallow... and you forgot to state that the five speed transmission is also from Benz. Not to mention the system that shuts off 4 cylinders of the Hemi while cruising on the highway which was used before on the Benz V12. But do those make it a Benz? Hell no. And the Dodge Magnum doesn't use the W220 chassis. It uses several aspects of it, but those were all engineered by Chrysler. An example is the suspension setup, which while it looks like the M-B setup is actually a Chrysler version of the M-B one that rides a bit differently.

Even the diesel engine in the Jeep Liberty isn't from M-B. So where is the relation? It isn't a touchy subject to me. I just hate to see people believe so much and stand so strong by wrong info and misconceptions. But I think I've come to the point at which I'll let the misinformed stay as they are. I'll let this go now as this isn't even what this thread is about.

If it's any consolation, they can swap parts all they want, I don't care enough for either one to even get the model names correct(300/300M?)
Anyway..

Me too.

But, I will add that a vehicle is composed of the sum of its parts. The more parts are shared with other vehicles, the less "unique" it becomes. It is entirely possible for the manufacturers to share all mechanical components and have the difference between them simply be the sheet metal and the star on the hood.

Who would know the difference?

Other than you and I, of course.

See Ford Ranger/Mazda pickup for a number of years, and a ton of other cars.
Doing what I do for a liveing(salvage yard, parts sales), I spend all day looking at what will fit what from another vehicle. So it's something I tend to notice without trying to.

Don't sweat it... it was an honest question. If I could answer it, I would! I'm kind of curious, too. I'll have to drive an hour + to get to a MB dealership to have my form signed! I know the Chrysler dealer in town personally... maybe I should ask him to sign it and see what happens when I mail it in (???).

Good luck!

Chris

Badges

My form for the sissy badge is in the mail as of today. We also sport an European Delivery badge. Before I left Germany, they handed me the ED badge and said I'd better hand carry this, as they often times come up missing during the voyage across the pond. If you live near a Stealership, they have the form on hand.

Clearly, some people are a bit touchy about the fact that M/B and Chrysler are the same company now. Their beloved three pointed star is going to be compromised by M/B parts going into Chrysler vehicles.

Sacriledge.

In answer to your question, I am quite sure (without any facts, however) that no Chrysler dealer will have anything whatsoever to do with Mercedes vehicles, parts, mileage badge, or otherwise.

If this does ever happen, someone in Kansas City is going to have an MI.

Talking Wow

Well I still have not made it to get mileage verified but I did get a copy of my original window sticker in the mail today.
Here is what I learned
Shipped to Baltimore
Preped in Chicago 1/11/84
Delivered to Lexington Ky
Base Price 39500
Add order # dark leather -1124
inland transportation - 170
Grand Total $40,794 before taxes and License

I always thought the electric sunroof was an option but this lists it as no charge
This is just too cool,
I will put this with the original car brochure
Life is good

Of course, there are many addtional badges available to the true Mercedes-Benz™ afficionado. Here are but a few:

The much-prized but hightly-secretive:"32nd-degree Timing Chain Elongation" badge

The utilitarian: "I Did a Solo Oil Change and My Diesel Still Shuts Off With the Key" badge

And, my personal fave, the: "Rear Footwell Swimming" merit badge

I definately don't qualify for that first one!

However, I'm proud to say that after all the mucking around I've done under the hood, including all the oil changes and GPs and whatnot, I've never caused a vacuum problem. Sign me up for that badge!

And I really don't want that last badge.... I found some moisture there after my last drive, and I'm really hoping it was just my friend's wet feet. I'm afraid to lift up the panels.

What about a mercedes shop badge? I mean, could we actually get a badge made for us? Maybe even a general "DIY" badge celebrating the spirit of the home-wrencher? I'm going to look around for some pricing..

EDIT: I just spoke with Gary at http://www.qualitylapelpins.com who makes custom grille badges. Browsing their website I noticed that they make lots of mercedes badges for clubs, and knew what I was talking about when I mentioned badges about the same size as the high-mileage awards.

He said that there are a lot of variables that determine price, but that for a quantity of 50 (which is what I threw out there), plan on a price in the 'high teens' each. There are no major price break points, just a sliding scale of higher quantity = cheaper so he said, "Just figure out how many you need, and get that many, we adjust the price to be cheaper even if you are buying just 55 or 60".

Would anyone be interested in a mercedesshop.com badge?

peace,
sam
