Steering Wheel Leather

The stitching is coming off. Does anyone know where to get the 'thread'? also, is this dyi job to stitch it back? one quarter of the steering wheel leather is loose.

A picture would be helpful...
In general you use a triangle shaped needle for leather stitching...
although if the leather is still strong and only the thread gave way you should try to hit the original holes if you can..
Size 69 nylon thread would be typical for this type sewing. This is the standard used on all upholstery inside a car.
it looks way too thin but it is WAY strong....

You may can use a straight needle.. but you can get a needle assortment pack at Tandy or The Leather Factory which will have a curved needle in it... the trick is to go an inch or so stitching it back together leaving the thread loose... then pulling it tight as you go.. but not so close it hinders you finding the old holes to continue... when you finish you go back over the last few stictches to lock it in place... just like on regular clothing sewing...
