Any interest? 1982 Euro 300D 4-spd
I just got another car (1999 Audi A6 2.8 Quattro, deal too good to pass up) and now own 3 vehicles.. one or two have to go. First up..
1982 Mercedes 300D 4-Speed Euro 226,600 miles Thistle green exterior Green cloth/Vynil interior 4-Speed N/A 3.0L 5-cylinder Manual windows Power sunroof Newer style Becker AM/FM/Cassette Exterior is in good shape. There are a few minor rust bubbles on the body here and there.. nothing horrible. Jackpoints are OK, light rust forming. There is one area under the front bumper that was rusted about fist-sized.. I cut away all the rusted material and primed it with Rustoleum to prevent anything further from happening. Tires are Goodyear Regatta and have 50-60% tread left. Euro bumpers on front and back.. rear bumper missing one side skirt. Interior is in excellent, excellent shape. Both the front and rear seats look like brand new. I put on some old tan sheepskin covers to protect them. The carpets are beautiful as well. Dash is great (no major cracks or anything). Dual zone manual climate control works fine. The car does have a retrofitted A/C system that does not work. The vacuum locks don't work, but I will see if I can fix them, or atleast diagnose them. The engine runs very very strong, starts pretty easy down to 10F (coldest so far) without being plugged in. The 4-speed shifts smooth except if you shift very fast from 1-2 it will grind once and a while. All other gears are fine. I just drained and filled the trans and rear with Mobil 1 fluids. Just gave it a fresh oil change yesterday. Will cruise at 80mph no problem. I'll get pics up in a day or two. I'd like to get around what I have into it, $2000 FIRM.. no negotiation. I'd be happy to pick you up from the train station, airport etc.. I feel confident the car would make it from coast to coast right now. Give me a call (908) 451-4332 if you have any questions. |
THats tempting............but the wife would have my.......hmmmmmm in a jar.
|
Hmm, thought there would be more interest.. Maybe I'll just throw it up on eBay.

I am interested, but I live in Minneapolis. Are you anywhere near Newark airport? Also, is the car much slower than a 300 turbo? What kind of mpg does it get? Any problem getting parts bcz it is a euro?
|
I am about 35 minutes from Newark Airport. The car is very comparable to a 300D turbo with an auto transmission, nowhere near as slow as a 240D but faster than a N/A 300D auto.
I've gotten 23mpg but you can get more.. I drive it with the pedal down all the time. It also has a new exhaust manifold from the factory, I forgot to mention. No, I don't see any problems getting parts for it. |
Is this the car?

I remembered your posts when you bought it. A very nice machine. Too many projects and Benz in the yard right now or I'd be on a plane to Newark!

John, please delete this thread. ;)
|
If I were not building a $hop in the backyard I would purchase it.

hey................but seriously...pictures would be nice....

Oh, I forgot to post some recent mechanical bits that are new in the car.
I just put rebuilt front calipers on the car, maybe 2-3,000 miles ago. New pads in the front as well. The previous owner put in rebuilt fuel injectors, starter and glow plugs in about 1 year ago. The car really runs extremely well. |
Post pics?
|
In a day or two, stay tuned. I need to give the outside a quick wash, it was only 10F as a high here today!
|
Ok, here is a video of a dead cold start. It is about 23F outside. The car has been sitting for 72 hours, last night we had a low of 10F and the night before it was about 5F.
http://207.44.234.41/300d/300d-coldstart.wmv I am going to make a movie of a short drive now and snap a bunch of pics.. |

http://207.44.234.41/300d/index.html - Photos Few other things.. The driver sun visor will not stay in the up position, so it was taken off.. it is included. There is a mark on the roof from a wind deflector for the sunroof. The antenna will not go down, it is permanantly fixed in the up position. For some reason the driver rear door will not open from the inside or outside. I got it to open once, by playing with the handles.. didn't mess with it anymore. |
Sold........to me. :D
Got it home about 11:00 last night. |
Glad to see you made it without any incidents! I'm glad to see it went to a fellow diesel nut.. Enjoy it!
|
Way to go Rick.

Congratulations on your new purchase! Thistle Green is not a regularly seen color like black or champagne is on the cars from this era. The 300SD listed in my sig has the same color exterior, although its badly in need of a repaint. Have fun with your "pocket rocket" manny tranny 240D.

That interior is about the coolest I have seen yet! WOW, I like that. Way to go, and ENJOY your manual tranny and Climate system!! :)

For the picture junkies, here's a couple more. First is the moment I arrived after driving 14.5 hours on 1/29. That's the day they had snow and ice storms all along the east coast, so I was racing against it the whole way. Second is in the driveway next to Big Smokey yesterday. The car seems to be really happy at it's new home. :D
|
Looking good Rick, I miss it already!
|
Nice!
Show us the inside! |

Well turbodiesel already showed the inside in a previous post, so I'll repeat one of his pics here. I haven't seen TheWarden around in a while - he'll go nuts over these cloth seats.
BTW John, I've fixed the locks and the left rear door. Got some Redline MTL on order that I hope will take care of that #2 syncro. Oh, and the missing bumper cap is available new for $35 so that's going on my next Fastlane order. |
I actually like the color of that car a lot. Brings back memories of when I was younger.
|
It's kind of nice to see one that isn't blue or beige on the inside.
