MAJOR power loss PLEASE HELP
I have no power in the upper RPM range. I cannot get over 65 very easily. I cannot find diesel purge so I bought 3 bottles of Power Service Diesel Kleen and a bottle of Chevron Complete Diesel fuel system cleaner. I am thinking of running my tank as low as possible and dumping this stuff all in at once to act as a diesel purge. Also possibly some tranny fluid too? I know people use it as injector cleaner. Please post your thoughts.

Sounds like the symptoms I had when my primer pump was leaking (sucking) air into the fuel system. Replaced it and the problem when away. Also check your vacuum hoses - any recent engine cleaning?

I havent changed the inline filter. But from what I can see, it doesn't look too bad. I changed the screw on one last year.

All it takes is one load of bad diesel fuel to clog up the secondary filter. And don't depend on anything showing up in the primary filter. I agree with the doc; change the secondary filter.

look for signs of fuel leaks...........many of those can become air leaks under load.................... ANd a pimer pump that leaks when you pump it......if it does re[place it. Tank breather also..............pop the cap off take it for a spin and see if it still does it.

Tank breather was something I have considered too. I will pop the cap off and try. So possibly the spin on fuel filter is clogged??

How many miles have you driven in the last year.....and how many low volume deisel pumps have you gotten fuel from? Its a year old so you would not be throwing money down the drain by replacing it now IMHO.

OK So I limped home tonight on the highway... Couldn't get over 30 when going uphill. Had to have my hazards on. Probably going to limp up to the local shop tomorrow and have them flush my fuel system/injection system and change the filters.

You really need to learn to change the filters on your car.
Flush your fuel system? To most mechanics this translates to "Empty my wallet for me please." What do you think those filters in your fuel system are there for? They catch debris until they reach their capacity and then they quit because they are blocked with debris. When they quit your engine cannot get fuel and it needs fuel to make power. |
