Question Another ALDA Question - How many turns from base?

I finally got around to removing my alda tonight for adjustment. Following GSXR's helpful photos, I had it off the IP in about 3 minutes. (I'll get faster next time, Dave .) I removed the tamper seal without a problem, but when it came time to loosen the locknut, EVERYTHING turned, including the set screw. I've lost my point of reference. Common guidance suggests 1.0-1.5 CCW turns of the set screw. My question is, from the fully closed position, how many turns would one advise turning the screw to reach the desired point of 1.0-1.5 CCW from stock? I counted, I believe, 4 3/4 complete turns from fully closed to fully open. Thanks!

At this point, I opened it 3 complete turns, reinstalled, and the car RIPS!! It's dark now, so I can't tell if it's blowing excess smoke.

You won't hurt anything if you open it up too far, it will just smoke. When you get too much smoke turn it clockwise 1/2 turn at a time until it quits.

Thanks for the email, Chris, I don't read the forum much these days - don't have time!

Anyway, the correct setting is to turn it richer until there's no more power gain, and/or there is a significant amount of smoke leaving a stop (in daylight). A small puff of smoke leaving a stop is fine, leaving a smoke screen is not. The final setting will probably be as fine as 1/8 to 1/4 turn or so. If you go too lean, the car will be sluggish off the line, too rich and it will smoke at takeoff *and* your MPG will drop. It may take a few tries to get it right.
