Alternator removal on w126

Just bought a floor jack and have jack stands so I can get underneath if I need to. Where do you suppor the front end on jack stands safely and so as not to damage car?

Is the belt tensioner that hex shaped bolt on the front and top of the alternator? I know I need to let off belt tension before I unbolt the thing. Then once I do that, it looked like two bolts? And then unplug?

I have the two belt pully. I suppose pully removal is just remove nut and slide off. Then reinstall is the reverse. Do I need to change pully if it is flat and true?

How much deflection should there be in belts once I tighten them back? Seems like about 3/4 of an inch right now.

brush pack

Indy mechanic said brush pack with voltage regulator is one single unit and that he frequently saw "rebuilt" alternators with aftermarket brush packs and alternators instead of Bosch that only lasted less than a year.

Mine was rebuilt 7mos ago with aftermarket part at an auto electric shop out of town. It's under warranty, but all he is going to do is put aftermarket back in.

Bosch brush pack with regulator is only $66 at dealer. Unless rectifier has gone bad. Hard to say. Rebuilt alt. is $150.

Regualtor and brush pack here on fastlane is only $20 (F4010-108169) IMHO would look at replacing those as opposed to pulling alternator off.

The alt. is held on by three bolts one is the tightner for the ajustor.I did not need to jack up the car to remove the alt. The one bolt on the bottom can be reached from under the front, the other two from the top side. you won't be able to see but you can feel the bolts to remove. Not that big of a deal.
pulley comes off easy, use a impack wrench to remove and install nut makes it easyer.
1 remove air plastic horn
2 unhook battery cable
3 unplug wire back alt.
4 undue bolt that holds ajuster
5 back off ajustor
6 remove other alt bolts
7 remove alt from the bottom
8 remove bolt and spacer and braket from alt. look to see how braket is install on alt.
9 remove pulley
10 reinstall in same order
You need a 17 mm 3/8 th drive and 17mm box end wrench also a 17 mm 1/2 drive for the bottom bolt.

I just repaired the mounting bracket on my 123 alternator this weekend. And the procedure is the same.

Just make sure that you loosen all three bolts. (2 mounting bolts and the adjuster tightening bolt). The PO of my car aparently didn't bother on several occasions and the bracket was bent up to the point that the alternator could not be adjusted loose enough to remove or put on belts.

As stated above, can not stress enough to make sure it is ALL BOSCH!! I do not care if the aftermarket is free! In a jam while out of town, I had an aftermarket put in for $400!!! Lasted 3 months, after alot of complaining and driving back in another car for two hours, they swaped me a Bosch (my labor to take it off and on). No problems since (4 years ago). Anyting electrical for me will be Bosch!

One correction to this list. Item #4 and #6

Make sure that you loosen all 3 bolts that mount the alternator BEFORE you unscrew the adjuster bolt that is 90 degrees to the 3 mounting bolts. Without loosening the 3 bolts the assembly will not rotate and you will bend the adjuster shaft bolt. so loosen all 3 mounting bolts and then loosen the adjuster bolt. Once the belt can slip off then remove the 3 mounting bolts to remove the whole assembly.
