Average maintenance costs?

I'm wondering what you guys spend on average every year to maintain your diesels? I am specifically looking at a 190D but there doesn't seem to be too many people on here with those so any model will do. I have read Marshall Booth's common 190 problems. Also, it seems the front suspension on a lot of 300D's starts to show wear around 200k miles. Similiar scenario for the 190's? I just want to know what I might expect to spend every year for a well maintained MB. It doesn't need to be immaculate but I don't want a beater and I want it to be reliable. Thanks, Matt

The first year is always the worst. The SD used up $2000. in parts in the first year and the SDL has consumed just a bit over $3000. But, for the second year onward, the costs drop significantly. I believe the both of them will get by at $1000. per year apiece. This is only parts cost. Wear items such as tires and wipers and headlamps and bulbs are included.

I've had my mercedes a year now, cost has been 2 oil changes, 1 oil filter and 2 sets of fuel filters, one can of ether, one battery, 4 glow plugs, and lots of frustration driving an old diesel in high altitute cold climates.

Depending on how picky you are figure around $3k the first year, then $1k-$1.5k after that. That is assuming you find a good example.
