Unhappy I traded in my '86 300SDL...I'm sad

After owning it for about 3 years, I traded in my 300sdl today, i'm so sad. I didn't want to do it, but I needed a truck and I couldn't afford to keep it and the truck to. Anyone that would like to inquire about it let me know. It's a great car. I have mixed emotions and i'm hurting. I bought a 2002 Toyota Tacoma. I needed the truck for the new job i'm about to take on and it wouldn't have been good for the car. I'll probably look next year for a 300sd or something. I hope I can still be apart of this great forum if it counts, my dad has about 4 MB's.

You do have my sympathy, and you'll probibly buy another one in the next couple years..

I'd have kept the car and bought a cheap used truck. I hope you got a good trade-in on it.

I got a pretty good trade in and that's what made it possible, otherwise, i was going to walk out. It hurts...but i just don't see myself without one for very long. I think I want that 617 engine this next time around, although the 603 sure is nice.

I want to know. How much did you trade it for? Maybe I can get my grubby paws on it before they wholesale it off.

I already have a (crappy) truck, now all I need is the car.

Tom, that was a fine looking vehicle and you have taken good care of it.
It really is sad to see it go.

Hopefully you will be back with another one in the future.

Ouch that was a nice SDL. I bet you will be back though, it will start with seeing a nice one for sale on the side of the road!

I drove by the truck place today, to get my pick up inspected and red tagged. I saw my car already waxed and for sale. I think they're asking $4,995.00 for it, but i'm not sure, don't qote me on that. If that's the case it'd be a steal. I'd rather see somebody from this forum jump on it rather than just someone who knows nothing about these cars. They have really nice trucks, lots of Ford F-250 Diesels. Man I sure had my eyes on those diesel trucks, just the price tags were hefty. If anyone wants to get a number where they can call just Private Message me or email me at tomd2325@sbcglobal.net I'll direct you to the where abouts of my car if you want to buy it or inquire about it.

My car, I have records from all that i've done on it. I just can't see myself out of one of those nice MB's for long. My new career move really wouldn't allow me to run around in my SDL. It was the only car I had. I'd have just ruined it, that wouldn't have been fair to the car. Although i'm sure it would have been just fine. I"m going to work for Sysco Foods here in Round Rock as a Sales Associate and it sometimes calls for helping clients out by delivering some items.

I think i'd like to have a 300 turbo diesel or even an SD.81-85 maybe.

BTW, I'm not soliciting for this car dealer, it's for those who are interested in my car and know what all I did to it and have seen the pictures. It's a way for you to get in touch to inqure.

Tom I am truly sorry for your loss. I dont think I woul dbe able to do that ever. I am such a sucker for my car I think I would have passed on the career move had it entailed getting rid of my baby. Like you say, I too would rather someone from this forum buy it rather than see it down the road one day with parts falling off and all dirty . And just for the records, you are part of our cyber-family. Of course you can still be a part of our forum. The wealth of information you posses from having your car is a valuable tool for all those out there that might need it. Isn't that what this forum is all about?

Thanks, Robert. I didn't sleep at all last night. I felt like I betrayed my car, myself, I sold her out.

Well i'll try and do all that I can to gain my knowledge of these wonderful cars. I at one point almost walked out, without saying anything to the guys whom I was dealing with. For me to deal with dealers is like a massive Migrane headache, I hate it.

I hate dealing with dealers!!! It usually ends up something like this.... My dad just got one of those trucks. He too needed a truck for his new job. I drove it, but man there is nothing like the mb driving experience. Its like driving a play car (no pun inteded). Well hang in there you'l get another one soon. I wish I had the money to buy yours and give it a good home here in Miami.

Ouch. Well at least Toyota makes a nice truck, my dad wants one when his F150 dies.

Don't worry you will find another one. Hopefully someone here snags it.

I wish I could have afforded one of those F250 Diesel 4 doors, 4x4s, nice. I saw some anywhere from $26K-$33K.

My dad owned a 1981 Toyota 4X4 and it was a nice truck. I've driven mine to work and back today. I do like it. It's funny how you remember how certain vehicles performed from when you were younger that you can relate to that. Almost like the '81 300 D that my dad bought. I can't forget that driving sensation and most of all the protection you felt when you were in it.

The Toyota Tacoma is a nice truck. I drove the 4 door version and for $3k more I could have drove out in that. You lose alot of the bed space though. Plus i'm not going to be hauling the family much in the truck. My son has his Ford 2002 F-150 and my daughter is reaching the magical 16.

I hope your right, that someone will snag it up from this forum. Most everyone here appreciates these cars. I can't think how i'd react if I saw it in about 6 months running around here in Austin, all pimped up or low riding or put up on 35's after I spent all that money working on her. I just added up all my invoices from 2004...$5500.00 of R&R. I hope the word gets out on here. I have the number for anyone to call and check it out.

Tom,
Sorry you had to trade in. At the end of the day it's just a car. You can always get another. It's a shame that you just spent so much over the past year. I used to own a Toyota T100 extended cab. What a great truck. Although it wasn't considered full size, it was a perfect size for us.
